AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University head men's soccer coach Warren Russ has released the program's 2018 schedule, which features eight matches at home and eight away from the confines of Hurricane Field. Following a pair of road matches to kick off the season, GSW will play a historic home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5, as the 7 p.m. start marks the first home match under the lights in school history. GSW will play seven of its eight home contests at 5 p.m. or later this fall.
The Blue & Gold have four first-ever meetings on the schedule with matches at Warner University (Aug. 30), Webber International (Sept. 1) and Pensacola Christian (Sept. 8) along with a home match against Shaw University (Oct. 3). GSW holds a combined 11-12-4 all-time record against the remaining five non-conference opponents on the slate for 2018.
The longest homestand of the fall runs from Sept. 12-19 with matches against Middle Georgia State on the 12th, Concordia College on the 15th and Spring Hill College on the 19th.
A three-match road trip ensues and is kicked off with the Peach Belt Conference opener at Clayton State on Sept. 22. Following stops at Point University (Sept. 26) and Young Harris (Sept. 29), the Hurricanes return home to open the month of October with the match against Shaw.
From there, it's Peach Belt matches to close out the season and GSW alternates home and road contests the rest of the way. The Hurricanes final three home matches fall on Saturdays with USC Aiken (Oct. 6), Lander (Oct. 20) and North Georgia (Oct. 27).
