Georgia Southwestern forward Kacey Barnard has been named the Peach Belt Conference men's soccer Player of the Week. The senior from Macon becomes the first soccer player in school history to win a weekly award for offensive performance.
Barnard had a goal and an assist as the Hurricanes knocked off North Georgia 3-0 for their first conference win of the year. He blasted a shot in the 16th minute that was saved, but the rebound was put home for GSW's second goal. Barnard then scored the third goal of the match from 20 yards out seven minutes later.
Southwestern beat North Georgia for the first time ever and got its first conference win since October of 2008.
Barnard becomes the third GSW soccer player in school history to receive a PBC weekly award. Teammate Sean Howe was named Defender of the Week during the 2009 season and Jonathan Smith received the same honor in 2008.
Barnard and the Hurricanes are back in action Wednesday (10/20) for a 5 p.m. match with eighth-ranked Clayton State.
