Men's soccer places five on All-Academic team
AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team recently placed five student-athletes on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team announced by the league office. With its five recipients, GSW finished second in the PBC, trailing Montevallo's six honorees on the 16-member team.
Kacey Barnard started 13 matches this season. Barnard, a senior and native of Macon, logged 902 minutes of playing time. He tallied two goals and had one assist. His one goal and one assist performance against North Georgia earned him Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honors, where he became the first offensive player in school history to earn a PBC weekly award. Barnard is an Exercise Science major.
Kevin Huet started 13 matches and played 888 minutes on the pitch this season. Huet is a junior from Conyers, majoring in Exercise Science. He had one assist on the season.
Jon McVaney is a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla. The History major was a contributor off the bench for coach Warren Russ this fall.
Yimi Reyes played in and started all 15 matches for the Hurricanes this season. Reyes played 1,061 minutes scoring one goal to go along with one assist. His goal proved to be the game winner against North Georgia. Reyes, a senior and native of Rome, Ga., is majoring in Accounting.
Ethan Vick is a junior accounting major from Coolidge. Vick played in 13 matches this season, logging 587 minutes of playing time.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
