PBC All-Academic Team loaded with Hurricanes

AUGUSTA, GA - The Peach Belt Conference released the men's soccer All-Academic team this afternoon from the conference office. Six of the eleven players named to the team are from GSW.

Kacey Barnard, an Exercise Science major, played in 11 games for the Hurricanes in 2008 and started eight matches. The sophomore forward scored one goal.

Robby Bartz, a sophomore defender and an Exercise Science major, played in all 18 games for the Hurricanes this season while starting 17 matches. 

Christian Dane, a Psychology major, started all 18 games for the Hurricanes in 2008. The senior defender scored one goal and had two assists.

Michael Moses, an English major, started all 18 games for the Hurricanes in 2008.  The junior midfielder recorded two assists.

Yimi Reyes, a sophomore midfielder and Business Management major, played in all 18 games for the Hurricanes this season while starting 13 matches.

Jonathan Smith, a Biology major, started all 18 games for the Hurricanes in 2008. The senior defender earned Southwestern's first PBC Defensive Player of the Week award on October 14th.

The team is part of a new season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
