Georgia Southwestern sophomore Craig Gibson was recently named to the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference men’s golf All-Conference first team. He becomes the first GSW golfer to receive this honor.
Gibson was the individual medalist at the 21-team, 105 player, Aflac/Cougar Invitational in the fall behind a second round 65 – the Peach Belt’s second-lowest round of the year. Following the victory, he was named the PBC Golfer of the Week on October 9, 2009, becoming only the second GSW golfer to receive the weekly award.
He followed his win with a third place finish at the 17-team Queens Invitational held October 12-13.
The Brooks, Alberta, Canada native recorded three top-five finishes in nine tournaments and finished no worse than 25th in the 2009-10 season.
Gibson finished the season with the fifth-lowest scoring average in the Peach Belt at 73.3.
Of the 20 rounds played in 2009-10, he finished under par six times.
Gibson and the Hurricanes made school history in March when they received votes for the first time in the NCAA Division II Golf World/Nike coaches’ poll.
