Senior Adam McKenney was named Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week this morning by the conference office.
McKenney won the Coker College Invitational in Orlando, Fla., with rounds of 67 and 69 for an eight-under-par 136, two strokes ahead of Florida Southern's Judson Eustaquio, who entered the tournament the NCAA's second-ranked golfer in Division II according to Golfstat. McKenney's 67 in the opening round is the lowest single-round score by a GSW golfer in two seasons and the individual title is his second in seven months after winning the West Georgia Invitational last March. He currently has the lowest stroke average in the PBC among golfers who have played more than one round.
McKenney, from Evans, Ga., becomes only the third GSW student-athlete, and first golfer, to win an athlete of the week award from the PBC since the Hurricanes began competing in the conference in the fall of 2006. The other two recipients were men's basketball players Adrian Robinson and Anthony Sargent. Robinson was named player of the week on January 2, 2006 and Sargent on February 25, 2008.
McKenney will lead the Hurricanes again this Monday, September 29th in the first round of the The State Farm - Laker Invitational in McDonough.
