Hurricanes sign 6-foot-7 forward from Snellville, Ga.
Brandon Sims, a transfer from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Ala., has signed an athletic scholarship agreement to attend GSW and join the men's basketball team, head coach Mike Leeder announced today.
Sims becomes the second player signed by the Hurricanes for the 2008-09 season, following Matt Mendell of Canton, Ga.
"We feel very fortunate to sign a player like Brandon here at GSW," said Leeder. "He will provide inside depth around the basket, an area we were very deficient in last year."
Sims last played in 2006-07 as a sophomore at CVCC. He averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 57% from the field for the Pirates.
"Brandon has the ability to guard multiple positions and can score some around the goal," said Leeder.
Sims averaged 9 points and 5.5 rebounds as a senior at South Gwinnett High School and was an AAU teammate of current Philadelphia 76er Louis Williams.
GSW returns three starters, including All-Peach Belt Conference selection Anthony Sargent, from a squad that finished 8-19 in 2007-08.
Personal Note: Brandon is the son of Anthony & Cynthia Sims of Snellville...his older sister teaches kindergarten in the Atlanta area.
