Georgia Southwestern designated hitter Corey Benson has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week. Benson hit .588 (10-for-17) in four games last week with three doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored. He had a .756 slugging percentage and .611 on-base percentage.

62 Hurricane student-athletes named to PBC Presidential Honor Roll
The Peach Belt Conference has announced that 1,079 student-athletes have been named to the Presidential Honor Roll from the league office in Augusta. A total of 62 GSW student-athletes earned the honor in 2009-10, a nine percent increase from last year's total.

Former Georgia Southwestern third baseman Zack Stanton signed a contract to play professionally for the Frontier Leagues Evansville (Ind.) Otters on Monday (June 14). The Georgia Southwestern baseball team split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with Flagler College to win the Peach Belt Conference weekend series - two games to one - at Hurricane Stadium. GSW took the first game on Saturday, 7-6, before dropping the nightcap, 14-8. Joining the Hurricanes on the field before game 1 was the Lee County Crushers t-ball team as part of the Hurricane Buddies team of the night program sponsored by McDonalds and The Americus Times-Recorder.

The Georgia Southwestern baseball team won their sixth-straight non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon with an 11-8 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery at the AUM Baseball Complex. Every GSW batter reached base safely at least once in the game. In addition, the Hurricanes had three players finish with three hits apiece as the team tallied 16 in the contest.

Jody Sellars (4-0) pitched a complete-game gem in game 2, scattering six hits. With UM scoring an unearned run, Sellars' ERA remains at 0.00 after 28 innings of work this spring.

The Cougars received seven of the ten first-place votes as voted on by the conference coaches earlier this week. GSW, which beat the Cougars in amazing fashion in the final game of the season - an 8-7 win in 14 innings - was picked to finish last.

52 Hurricane Student-Athletes Named to Peach Belt Conference Honor Roll
52 Georgia Southwestern student-athletes representing the university's 10 varsity sports earned a spot on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll for the 2007-2008 academic year. Three achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

The visiting Night Hawks answered with their lone run in the top of the second. From there it was all GSW.

Canes Split With Flagler College
GSW and Flagler College split a non-conference doubleheader in St. Augustine, Fla. on Wednesday. A one-out bases loaded single in the home half of the ninth gave the Saints a 5-4 victory in game one. In game two, sophomore DJ Decker belted a grand slam in the top of the first to lead the Hurricanes to a 9-1 victory.

The Georgia Southwestern baseball team was happy to be back in the friendly confines of Hurricane Field on Monday. The Canes bats came to life and the pitching was outstanding in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Philadelphia University. GSW took game one 10-0 in seven innings and game two 7-1.

Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team wrapped up their season against North Georgia College & State University at home, on Sunday, April 29. NGCSU won both games Sunday games, securing a 4-1 victory in the first game of the afternoon and winning the second game 16-4.

Cougars sweep Hurricanes
Columbus, GA - Columbus State pounded out 17 hits and got quality pitching from Anthony Arrington as it completed a Peach Belt Conference series sweep with an 11-1 win at Ragsdale Field on Sunday. The Cougars move to 27-7 overall and 12-6 in PBC play with the win, while the Hurricanes fall to 9-15 overall and 3-9 in league play in their first season in the PBC.
