Georgia Southwestern State University head baseball coach Bryan McLain has announced the hiring of Nate Ferrell as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season.
An infielder throughout his career, Ferrell will work with the Georgia Southwestern infielders and hitters this season.
Ferrell joins the Hurricanes staff after playing two seasons of Independent League professional baseball with the Alpine 06 Cowboys, Lake Erie Crushers and Florence Freedom. In 2016 Ferrell played in 60 games with the 06 Cowboys, hitting .302 with seven doubles, 41 runs scored and finished second on the team with seven home runs.
A native of Griffin, Ga., Ferrell finished his collegiate baseball career at Central Arkansas University where he hit a combined .275 in two seasons with the Bears. He was the team's second-leading hitter in 2014 at .309, with 55 hits, 32 runs, 11 doubles and 31 RBI.
Ferrell graduated from Central Arkansas in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences.

Coffman will work with the Georgia Southwestern outfielders and hitters this season.
Coffman joins the Hurricanes staff after spending the summer as head coach for the Edenton Steamers, a college summer team and member of the Coastal Plain League. Prior to working with the Steamers, Coffman spent three years as a volunteer assistant with the University of Cincinnati baseball team. He has also coached on the staffs at junior-college powerhouse Wabash Valley College and the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League.
Coffman began his coaching career at Indiana University where he got his start as a volunteer strength-and-conditioning coach in 2007. Then after serving one year as the student manager for Hoosier baseball in 2008, Coffman was promoted to volunteer assistant coach in 2009.
Dustin spent his playing days as an outfielder at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Mich. In high school he played four years at South Bend Clay and was named the 2003 Northern Indiana Player of the Year. He played in the 2004 North/South All-Star Game and the 2002 Senior League World Series.
Coffman graduated from Indiana University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science
