AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern baseball program announces the signing of 6-foot-1 infielder Gabe Selochan to a national letter of intent during the fall's early signing period.
Selochan will complete his senior season this spring at Jefferson High School in Tampa, Fla. where he has played for local legend Emeterio "Pop" Cuesta. Entering the 2013 campaign, Selochan has a .315 career batting average and a 2.25 earned run average.
"We are excited about the addition of Gabe to our baseball program," GSW head coach Bryan McLain said. "He is an extremely physical and athletic young man who has played multiple positions for his high school team which will serve him well going forward, but we feel like he has the tools to play shortstop at the college level."
Selochan received national recognition in March when he earned Perfect Game USA Preseason High School Underclassmen All-American Honorable Mention. Over the summer, the Odessa, Fla. native played for Team X Baseball out of Tampa which competes nationally and has traditionally produced quality baseball talent.
Selochan is also a standout in the classroom, with a 5.07 GPA, and a member of multiple honor societies.
"It's always a good feeling as a coach when you can add quality young men both on and off the field to your program," McLain said.
