Parker named Preseason All-Conference

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern junior Beau Parker was named to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference baseball preseason All-Conference team on Thursday afternoon.

Parker played his way into a starting role at second base midway through the 2010 season. A 5-for-5 performance against Thomas University on March 23 triggered a solid stretch run for Parker, as he started 20 games and finished the spring with a .446 batting average, 14 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts.

The Bainbridge native hit .700 in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, accounting for seven runs and three RBIs in the Hurricanes' historic run to the title game. For his efforts, Parker was named to the All-Tournament team.

GSW opens the 2011 season on Tuesday (Feb. 1) against Valdosta State at 5 p.m.

PBC play begins Feb. 26 and continues through the conference tournament May 8-12 at Golden Park in Columbus, Ga.
