MOUNT VERNON — Trent Dooley was 2-for-3 with three RBI,
and Travis Barrett allowed two runs over 6.1 innings as Georgia
Southwestern beat Brewton Parker 8-2 on Wednesday.
The Hurricanes (19-8), ranked 30th in the country in Division II
has beaten the NAIA’s 24th-ranked Barons for a second time
this season.
The Barons, which were ranked in the top 20 in eight pitching
categories, allowed 11 hits in the contest, including two to
Dooley, Chris Lingham, Zack Stanton and Beau Parker.
GSW broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth when Stanton scored on one of two
balks in the inning. After Byron Haynes scored, Beau Parker’s
RBI-single pushed the lead to 5-2.
Stanton added a RBI-single in the eighth, and Dooley drove in two
with a single.
Barrett allowed six hits in improving to 3-0, and Brandon Reeder
pitched the final 2.2 innings, striking out four without allowing a
hit.
GSW hits the road Friday to start a three-game conference
series with No. 16 Georgia College (20-10). First pitch is 6 p.m.
