AMERICUS - President Kendall Blanchard announced recently that Jaclyn K. Donovan is resigning as Georgia Southwestern State University athletic director (AD) at the end of the Fall 2013 semester. Donovan will serve as faculty for the Department of Health and Human Performance and the School of Business Administration in Spring 2014.
"While I have greatly enjoyed my time in Americus with Hurricane Athletics, I have been given the opportunity to pursue other career aspirations that have previously been put on hold," said Donovan.
Retired AD and basketball coach Randolph Barksdale will serve as interim athletic director.
"Director Donovan played a key role in the evolution of our athletic program from NAIA to NCAA Division II," said Blanchard. "Under her leadership many improvements have been made to our athletic facilities, new athletic scholarships have been created, and our athletes have continued to do well in the classroom."
Donovan began serving as athletic director in November 2008 after working as associate AD. She began at GSW in 2004 as the head athletic trainer. During her tenure as AD, the Hurricanes completed a successful transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II, improvements were made to all of GSW's athletic facilities and numerous student-athletes received awards for academic success. Men's basketball and golf qualified for NCAA Division II post-season play, with golf having individual participants in the National Championship Tournament in 2012 and 2013.
"In my ten years at GSW I have been very fortunate to work with an outstanding staff and a remarkable roster of student-athletes," said Donovan. "I wish Georgia Southwestern and the Department of Athletics the best of success in the future."
Donovan graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. She earned a Master of Science in kinesiology and health promotion from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern.
