The Storm Dome floor is undergoing a makeover in preparation for the 2008-09 basketball season. A fresh shine and a new paint scheme highlight the changes to the arena floor. In addition, fans will notice an extra line around the 3-point arc.
In 2006-07, during the 20-year anniversary of the 3-point shot in NCAA men's basketball, the basketball rules committee decided the line needed an update. After much debate and discussion, the first major alteration to the 3-point shot since its inception in 1986-87 will take place this season. The 3-point line has been moved back one foot for the men to 20 feet, 9 inches.
The women's 3-point line will remain at 19 feet, 9 inches, meaning there will be two different lines on the court this winter.
The entire floor project is expected to take several weeks.
